Getting Started
Jamulii Server locations are currently available in North America and Western Europe with more locations planned across the globe. You can use these Jamulii servers, even if you aren't located in North America or Europe. However keep in mind that audio delay will increase with the physical distance between your location and the server. Give it a try and decide for yourself if it's acceptable.
Before you begin using Jamulii servers, you should download, install, and familiarize yourself with the Jamulus Client software. See the Jamulus web site for downloads and setup instructions.
Once you are signed-in to Jamulii, click on the Servers menu option. If you have existing servers defined, they will show in a list on the Servers page. If you are just starting out, click Add Server on the Servers page.
There are only two fields that are required to start up a server.
Server Name. This is for your own organizational help within the Jamulii service. It will not be shown to connected Jamulus Clients.
Server Location. This is where Jamulii will launch your server. Choose a location that is closest to most members of your intended session.
Start a Server
Once the two fields mentioned above are filled in, you can start server instances by clicking the server toggle in the upper-left of the Server page. The toggle will slide, change color, and show the current status of the server. It takes a minute or two to launch a server, so now's a good time to make sure the rest of your gear and your Jamulus Client are up and ready to go.
The server toggle will turn green and will read Running, once the server is ready for Jamulus connections. Click or select/copy the server address shown just below the toggle. Paste that address into your Jamulus connection dialog box, and click the Connect button.
- Note that the server address uses a randomized word to ensure uniqueness between other Jamulii server instances.
Jamulus Client should connect to the Server within a few seconds.
Enable Recording
Once a server is running, you can click the recording toggle to start/stop recording any time. Each time you stop a recording, Jamulii will create a stereo mix of all Jamulus Clients that were connected at any time since recording was last started.
Stop a Server
To stop a Jamulii server, click the server toggle while the server is running. The toggle will show Stopping and will change color. The server could take a minute or two to stop.
You can also let the server stop automatically. If no Jamulus Clients are connected to the server for 15 minutes, the server will stop itself.
Stopped servers can be thought of as sleeping computers.
Restart a Server
While a server is stopped, it can be restarted by clicking the server toggle.
Server Termination
Stopped server instances, are terminated/deleted 15 minutes after the server is stopped. Only the current instance is deleted. Your server definition and settings are not affected. After a server instance is terminated, you can change the server settings and start a new server instance any time.
Download Recordings
Recordings can be downloaded shortly after stopping recording or stopping a server. Click the History link in the main menu to view a list of past sessions. Click the name of the session to view a list of recordings. Click a recording to view a list of downloadable files. The raw recordings are saved as .wav files, and the stereo mixdown is saved as .mp3.
Recordings will remain available to download for 7 days.
